Masks, yes or no?
--
There seems to be a great deal of controversy around all things COVID 19 these days. One of them is masks. Should we or shouldn’t we? Are they really necessary — do they actually help? A point my husband made is, “at least they keep me from touching my face.” A good enough reason for some, if it keeps people from touching their faces can keep us safer, they may be worth it. According to a small NIH study conducted in 2015, the participants touched their faces 23 times per hour. Germ transmission is a reality. The WHO offers this 5 page guide, dense with references, that perhaps will leave you with more questions than answers. The CDC suggests “Everyone should wear a cloth face cover when they have to go out in public, for example to the grocery store or to pick up other necessities.” noting a few exceptions. Citizens are taking responsibility for protecting their own health in The Masks Now Coalition as well as providing masks to fill a critical shortage.
Are you or aren’t you? As for me, I will wear one to protect others in case I am an asymptomatic COVID 19 carrier. Stay safe everyone.
